“The rules of Golf”

1. Players
A and B are partners in a four-ball competition. A was practicing putts on the
4th green after B drove from the 5th tee. Was this a in breach of Rules?
2. When marking the position
of a ball, must the ball-marker be placed behind the ball, or may it also be
placed to the side of or in front of the ball?

Letters to the Editor
Hey Rick
A few of us were wondering or
suggest that we make Number #9 hole a par 5! It seems that not too many people
have much chance to reach that green in three to have a chance for a par.
Birdie is really out of the question. Since they took down the tree in the
middle of the fairway #3 we could make that a Par 4. What do you think?
Tom Devore

Tom,
I have spoken to the powers to be and the
consensus is Number 9 is what it is. The purpose of the game of golf other than
frustrating the hell out of you is to challenge your skill and ability to
adjust your game. Every course has a signature hole that is usually the hardest.
Number 9 is Churn Creeks. On the Number
3 hole it has become a fairly easy par 5 since the trees were removed. So there
you have your stroke you were looking for on number 9. Then there is always the
option of that course up north with the giant Windmill J

New rules for Senior Golfers for January
2010
Rule 2.d.6 (b)
A ball hitting a tree shall
be deemed not to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no
place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the
ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from
there.

Editor’s monthly golf joke:
After church one Sunday, one of the congregants
walked up to the priest and said, "Father, is it a sin to play golf on
Sunday?” My son," said the priest, putting his hand on the man's shoulder,
"I've seen you play golf. It's a sin any day."
Laws of Golf
LAW 1: for January 2010
No matter how bad your last shot was, you should
have Inner peace knowing that a shittier one is yet to come. This law
does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to
extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.

December Golf one liners;
Golf is a game that needlessly prolongs the lives of
some of our most useless citizens.'
If you watch a game, it's fun. If you play it, it's
recreation. If you work at it, it's golf.

The Lighter Side;
Unlucky Sam
Dame Fortune was seldom kind to Sam. Although
Sam had a real zest for life he was constantly beset by bad luck. He loved
poker but poker did not love Sam; he played the stock market with great
anticipation but always seemed to be the one who bought high and sold low. His
life seemed to be full of more downs than ups.
His greatest delight was his golf game. Not
that Sam was a great golfer; in fact, he never managed to break 100, but the
odd shot that somehow ended up in the general area he had in mind was enough to
keep his hopes alive. Finally Sam became ill and passed away. But just before
he died, he asked that his remains be cremated and his ashes be scattered just
off the fairway on the ninth hole of his home course.
Accordingly, a gathering assembled to carry
out Sam's wishes. It was a bright sunny day and was going well. Then, as the
ashes were being strewn.... a gust of wind came up and ... blew Sam out of
bounds.
Website update
Hopefully by the New Year we
will have our “New Look” website up and running smoothly. Our web designer
Barbara Kapsenberg has spent countless hours in recreating a new fresh look for
the site. New features for the membership use include a message board for all
to use. Here you will be able to post news of events, parties, and items for
sale. For the CCGA Board we will have other data base access to make their jobs
much easier. All of which sounds boring
I’m sure. For me as we put many hours in this to see it coming to a visual
conclusion is exciting. I will keep you all informed in coming days on this.

Answer to Woody’s
Perch Quiz;
1. Yes.
In match play, A is disqualified for the 5th hole. B incurred no penalty since
A's breach did not assist him (Rule 30-3f).
In
stroke play, A incurred a penalty of two strokes at the 5th hole. B incurred no
penalty since A's breach did not assist him (Rule 31-8).
2. There
is no restriction. However,
if a player positions his ball-marker in front of the ball on the putting green
and in the process does something to the green which might influence the
movement of the ball when played, e.g., presses down a raised tuft of grass, he
is in breach of Rule 1-2.
Placing
a ball-marker in front of the ball is not recommended but it is not a breach of
Rule 16-1a because this Rule permits touching the line of putt in lifting a
ball, and marking the position of the ball is part of the lifting process. Bet
you didn’t know that..
