A historical review of Churn Creek Golf Course

It all started back in 1971 when the late Dee A. Divine first got the idea of turning his family’s 70 acre farmland into a golf course. Much debate was made around the family dinner table. Changing their lives from raising cows to herding golf balls was not a unanimous opinion among the Divine family. Dee won out however as construction finally began in 1972. Sadly Mr. Divine never saw his dream reach its completion as he passed away on November 1, 1976. The Divine family pressed on and completed the construction, and opened for their first day of business on August 16, 1977. Churn Creek Golf Course has stayed in the Divine family and is presently run and managed by the brothers Bob and Stephen Divine.

There have been many ups and downs over the years that have challenged the Divines and Churn Creek Golf Course. The past few years the Divines have pressed forward with a mission to make this golf course the best of its kind in Northern California. First on the agenda was to bring in a new Greens keeper and Crew, headed by Eric Moen. Eric worked 2 years as superintendent at Baker City Muni golf course in Baker City Ore, another 5 years at Shield Crest Golf Course, Klamath Falls, Ore and finally 2 more years at Beau Pre Golf Course, McKinleyville, CA. Eric’s many years of valuable experience in the field has sparked a great change in the condition of playability at Churn Creek. Special attention was needed for the temperamental Bermuda Greens along with heavy maintenance in the fairways, Tee boxes, and Tree trimming. On any given day you will see Eric and his crew working hard to meet the challenge. Churn Creek is well on its way to meeting their goals.

Next up was to bring back the popular Club Pro, June Szody. June comes to Churn Creek with many solid years of experience.

Finally a spirit of partnership was formed between the Churn Creek Golf Association and management to produce the best Golf Club and Golf Course of its kind in Northern California. We have a slide show for you presenting staff and club house.
