“The Rules of Golf”

Loren Woodmansee

1. A player whose ball lies in a bunker completely covered by casual water drops his ball under Rule 25-1b (ii) at a spot where there is 1/4 inch of casual water. This spot is the nearest spot providing maximum available relief. The ball rolls into a spot where there is about 1/2 inch of casual water. What is the ruling?

2. A player's ball is struck towards a water hazard. It is known or virtually certain that the player's ball is in the water hazard, and he drops a ball under Rule 26-1b. Before he plays the dropped ball, his original ball is found within the five-minute search period. What is the ruling?

The lighter side
“Did You Know”

In this segment we will attempt to teach our loyal readers the many definitions of golf terms, sayings, phrases, and or folklore of Golf.
No Blood; Phrase used most often in match-play situations to indicate that the hole was halved, or played even, and no money has been won or lost.
Blow Up; To have your golf game come apart at the seams. Easily recognized: When your score is blowing up, and so are you. Also referred to as Quicksand.
Bo Derek; A perfect shot. The expression comes from Ms. Derek's role in the movie 10, in which some considered her as attractive as a 350-yard drive down the middle of the fairway. Churn Creek Players may disregard this one.
Bogey - The number of strokes needed to finish a hole by a golfer of average skill and above-average honesty.

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor and CCGA Members

A friend at Churn Creek told me about these, I didn't believe him but it is true.  There are these 2 machines in the garage.  One will wash your cloths and the other will dry them.  I tried them today it was totally cool.  But if you find some in your garage, be careful with the one that dries.  If you put your sweat shirts in it, you will have to give them to the little kid next door.  Next I am going to try washing the dishes in the golf ball washer under the kitchen counter.  I told him I found it a long time ago.  I warned him to push the button for cold dry or it would wreck his balls.  He also told me what that back scratcher I found next to the toilet was for.  I tried it but found it was just quicker to put a new toilet in when the old one gets to smelly.  I am really learning a lot of cool stuff.  If anyone has any other cool ideas let me know.  I am really getting good around the house.  I don't know why we always took the garbage out.  I found it is easier to bring the can in and put it by the refrigerator.  I spray painted it a kind of rainbow color it really goes good with the recycling can.  The recycling can was an after thought, but I am trying to be more earth friendly.  The problem I am having is the beer cans fill up the recycling can before the Manhandler trays fill up the trash can.  I think I will call the trash company and see if I can get a smaller trash can and a larger recycle can.  I don't have to get up anymore to let the dogs out.  I cut a hole in the wall by the wood stove.  I think I got it to close.  My black labs now look like large hairless Chippewa's.  My friend was over playing pool where the dinning room table used to be, he said I should show them at that Kanoba dog food show.  Well it is time to boil some hot dogs for supper they are really good after you dry them off and put them on a peanut butter and jelly bun with just a dab of ketchup.  I have 8 varieties of ice cream to choose from.  Did you know ice cream makes a great main dish when you don’t feel like boiling some hot dogs?   I hope the New Year brings you lower handicaps and more importantly good camaraderie with the members of our club.

You’re humble Pres. Rambling Ron

Meet Lee Lamp

I was born on November 12, 1955 in Oakland Ca. I attended San Lorenzo High. After I graduated I served in the United Sates Air Force from September 1973 through Oct 1997. I attended the community college of the Air Force and received special training/schooling throughout my enlistment. I moved from Rapid City SD to Redding July 4, 1997 I married my lovely wife Cary who I met in high school on June 25th 1982. We have been married now for 28 great years. Cary has been a stay at home wife taking care of me and my family. I have two daughters Heidi and Mariah and two Sons Jarrod and Ryder. We have 3 grandchildren Ethan, McKenna, and Chase.

After my 24 year career in the Air Force I went to work for Pinnacle Telecommunications as the Quality Manager were I’m still employed. I retired form the Air Force in 1997 and look forward to the day I can retire from my current job.

My fondest memory was re-kindling my relationship with my wife in 1981. I love to play golf and spend time with my family. I would hope people would think of me as being “committed to getting things right”.

Personal likes, favorite movie there are many off the top of my head “Man from Snowy River” Music I like Garth Brook “The Dance” Favorite Restaurant Logan’s Road House.

What do I value or cherish most in my life experience is that my military service gave me the opportunity to meet many people from all walks of life and of different cultures. I’ll cherish every minute of it. Lastly I had the opportunity to play The Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. Getting a tee time was a story in itself. My secret……J

Picture of the Month

CCGA celebrated “Toys for Kids 2010” with resounding success with this great turnout on a very dismal day weather wise. Thanks to you it works.

Joke of the month

"I play golf in the low eighties," the old man was telling one of the youngsters at his club.

"Wow," said the young man, "that's pretty impressive."

"Not really," said the old man, "Any hotter and I'd probably have a stroke."

Answer to Woody’s Quiz
1. In equity (Rule 1-4), and under the principle of Rule 20-2c (v), the player may re-drop and, if the ball so rolls again, place the ball where it first struck a part of the course when re-dropped.

2. As it was known or virtually certain that the ball was in the water hazard when the player put the substituted ball into play, that ball was correctly substituted and he may not play the original ball.

If the original ball was found in the water hazard and this discovery affects the reference point for proceeding under Rule 26-1b, resulting in the substituted ball having been dropped in a wrong place, the player must correct the error under Rule 20-6. The player must proceed in accordance with any of the applicable options under Rule 26-1 with respect to the correct reference point (see Decisions 20-6/2 and 26-1/16). Otherwise, Rule 20-6 does not apply and the player must continue play with the dropped ball. In either case, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke under Rule 26-1.

In the unlikely event that the original ball was found outside the water hazard, the player must continue with the dropped ball under penalty of one stroke (Rule 26-1). (Revised)
